Workstep

A tailored programme enabling individuals with disabilities to gain and maintain employment unsupported employment in the future.

Workstep is a government funded programme that aims to assist individuals with disabilities and long term health problems to:

  • Find and maintain long term employment
  • Retain employment with a current employer when at serious risk of losing their job

Within Norfolk Industries we operate this programme over a maximum 2 year contract with a view to providing development and training as well as commercial work experience.  Individuals are encouraged to develop soft skills such as confidence, motivation and self management as well as academic skills were appropriate.

Ultimately Workstep is designed to enable individuals to progress towards open employment whilst earning a wage and being developed.  It offers a stepping stone for people with various disabilities between long term unemployment and unsupported work.

In most cases, once a vacancy arises, a Disability Employment Advisor (DEA) or Personal Advisor (PA) at your local job centre will assess an individual’s suitability for Workstep and then make a referral to Norfolk industries Contact us for more details.

Other sources of referral would be Shaw Trust, A4E, Meridian East and Action for Blind People.
