Employment Opportunities

Workchoice

Norfolk Industries is a provider of Workchoice, which is a government funded employment programme that aims to assist individuals with disabilities and long term health problems to gain or retain employment.

Norfolk Industries Workchoice placements are designed to offer work experience, development and training over a maximum 2 year contract period. Ultimately Workchoice is designed to support individuals to progress towards unsupported employment whilst training and earning a wage. It offers a stepping stone for people with disabilities between long term unemployment and unsupported work with local employers.

A distance travelled model is in place to demonstrate progress made whilst on the programme and this also measures soft skills such as confidence, motivation and self management as well as academic skills where appropriate.

Generally, once a vacancy arises on the Workchoice programme here at Norfolk Industries, Shaw Trust and other local agencies such as A4E, Meridian East, TNG and Action for Blind People would be informed in order to refer individuals for consideration. For further information call Shaw Trust Direct on 0300 303 3111, who will put you in contact with one of their advisors.

Work Experience Placements - Voluntary

Norfolk Industries also offers short term work placements through local agencies such as Meridian East, TNG and A4E.

Designed to provide 4 to 12 week placements tailored to suit individuals requirements from 4 hours to 30 hours per week, these placements offer work experience for people who are long term unemployed and may also have other barriers to work such as learning difficulties or physically disability.

We attempt to develop soft skills such as confidence building, team working skills, timekeeping and attendance skills and these placements also enable individuals to retain benefits whilst improving their ability to find work in the future.

If you are interested in these work placements please contact one of the agencies shown below.

Community Services

Service Delivery

Norfolk Industries prides itself in employing people who are disadvantaged in the labour market due to disability. Some of our staff have complex multiple disabilities and have worked at Norfolk Industries for many years.

We feel that we can clearly demonstrate that a business who employs the majority of it's staff who have disabilities, can provide high quality products to our customers at all times whilst fulfilling a social aim.

Norfolk Industries pays all staff well above minimum wage with a bonus package as well as a good pension provision, ensuring that staff are able to provide for families and have a fulfilling life through work.

Corporate Responsibility

Corporate responsibility is now very high on the agenda particularly within larger organisations.

Norfolk Industries supplies quality products whilst it's own remit is not to make profit for shareholders but to reinvest any profits made directly into improving and continuing to provide a quality support service to our disabled staff and work placement volunteers. This social responsibility results in an additional marketable reason to trade with 'community interest' companies such as Norfolk Industries.

Norfolk Industries sees itself as a Social Enterprise and our mission is to apply market-based strategies to achieve a social purpose. Our aim is to accomplish targets that are social and/or environmental as well as financial (often referred to as the triple bottom line).

Many commercial businesses would consider themselves to have social objectives, but true social enterprises are distinctive because their social or environmental purpose remains central to their operation. Norfolk Industries believes passionately that people with disabilities and/or disadvantages to work, can with the correct support, offer a quality product at a cost effective rate and we encourage other organisations to become part of this important service by purchasing our products.

Profit from our expertise, after all we don't!
